Day 4

Sunday June 17 2012

Today was the day we went to the slave chambers and the bbeeaacchh. We started off by going to the slave chambers. The tour guide talked to us and said, “that these chambers were for after the slave trade.” We saw the deep room that was split in to two parts 1 side for men and the other for women. It was split up because one side the women’s side wouldn’t have chains because the women couldn’t over power the guards. The other side the men’s would have chains around there necks so they couldn’t injure or kill the guards. I learned many more horrible but interesting facts such as that they would cement slaves in to the walls of buildings because they said it strengthened the walls. We know now that that isn’t true the slave owners just did that to fear the other slaves. Then we went to the beach we all got a coconut umbrella to lie under including all of the college kids. Then we got to go swimming we all splashed in going at least 20 feat out in the ocean after awhile of free swim and treading water some of us got and dried off. After I swam I searched for sea glass I found at least 10 pieces 3 different types of corral and a coconut. I put them all in the coconut to bring back to our hotel/house. When we were all done swimming we went to the bar of course I had a Coke because now I crave them and other people got do have beer because the drinking age is only eighteen so of course they would have a beer. That night we went to a friend of Megan’s if you don’t know who Megan is she’s the group leader. She booked a actual Swahili dinner for the group. The person who prepared was not only our chef for that night it was our Swahili teacher her name was mama Abla. She was one of the best Swahili teachers in all of Zanzibar so I was very glad to be her student. That night for dinner mama Abla told everyone what everything was there was beans mixed with coconut juice, fish samaki which was amazing, non, sweet noodle like things, and some fish like sticks. After we had dinner we had to go straight to bed because it was late.

(P.S.) always try something before you say it is bad I learned that the hard way by not tasting one of mama Ablas foods.

Day 3

Sunday June 17 2012

Jambo that means hello in Swahili we are learning that language today and through out the trip. Today I was the third one to get up. My mom said that she would teach us some words tomorrow when we went to bed. So today I got a little preview lesson kidogo that means short, little or, small so I learned many more words even though mimi ni mwanafunzie wa ki Swahili that men t that I am was a student of Swahili I would say more but, I am not teaching the whole language to you in one letter. So today we went to Stone town the cobble stone narrow roads were beautiful sort of and the stores were packed with souvenirs for tourists. Eventually we got to a lunch place sat down with the two paintings we bought and the dress and bought some drinks. I had my first Coke Cola and now I crave them so badly. When we came back from Stone Town we went swimming. After some random swim time I my brother and my cousin Tyler were jumping for tennis balls. Ball after ball after ball we missed caught or it was just a really horrible throw at the end Tyler won with the most tennis balls caught he caught about 10 out of about 15 so it was a good score compared to mine. When that was over we had dinner pizza amazing pizza. That night I couldn’t go to bed my fan just kept on waking me up so I ended up about past out because I just couldn’t stay up much longer.

(P.S) always take the air-conditioning.

Day 2

Saturday June 16 2012

Today I woke up at around 4am for the plane flight to Zanzibar. It was too early for the breakfast so we went straight to the car. After about 20 minutes we arrived at the airport with not 1 not 2 but, three securities, one when you get in, another after you put your luggage on the plane, And the last when you enter your gate. After going thru the traitorous three securities, the luggage, and immigration it got pretty boring. So luckily our plane was called and we got to go to Zanzibar!!!!! After the hour and a half plane to Zanzibar we were there the palm trees, the beautiful beaches, and the broken down shacks. We went to our taxi and made our way to the hotel. The things I saw when we on that ride was incredible I can realize now how lucky I am with a nice home and good clothes. When we made it to the hotel the hotel was amazing the pool was huge, the beach was crystal blue, and the house was like a royal palace. When we were all settled in we went to the restaurant/bar and had dinner I had something called fish fingers my brother and Tyler each had pizza. I made a mistake I should have gotten the pizza the thin crust and the light cheese was delicious I ended up eating about 7 pieces of pizza. We had an unusual night going to bed at 7pm that night but we got a good night sleep considering that we got up at about 4am this was a nice sleep.

(P.S.)  If you ever go to Africa shut your door at around 12 so and put your mosquito net down because stuff gets in including mosquitoes.

DAY 1

Friday June 15 2012

Today we woke up around 6am African time. Around 11pm American time. It was time to get ready to go on the safari. We got up really tired and got ready for the national park safari. We went down to have breakfast the refreshing juice and the passion fruit was delightful. It was the best I have ever tasted. It was amazing how the African food at this hotel was. At 8am the car pulled around the hotel and it was time to go there and see all the animals in the national park. The first thing we saw were the giraffes there were three of them next to some Impala and 1 Cape Buffalo

They were an ok find but, the most amazing thing we saw there was the 4 white rhino and 1 small little baby the baby was so cute curled up against his mothers side. As the rhinos walked in front of our car the 4 were like cars thru dirt with the sand becoming in to dust and the humongous paw prints that they left behind. After driving around seeing animals such as Ostrich, Hippo, Crocodile, and various types of birds we decided to go to. The baby elephants in the orphanage the long trunk and the huge toenails fascinated me while they played with a ball and chewed on branches. While the orphans were messing around the instructors told how all the elephants became orphans I just watched the elephants more until it was over.  After the show I adopted an elephant her name was Sonje. She was one of the biggest but one of the most hurt. She had a swollen leg so she couldn’t walk properly.

The last thing we did that day that was really fun was feed giraffe It was really amazing how the giraffes could actually know that we were all in the little tree house like thing were we feed them At first they didn’t even come up to the house. Then the workers told us that they ate the pellets all the time and some times they want to eat greens instead after about 5- 10 minutes the giraffes came over and 1 still only wanted greens so the workers went down to the field and grabbed a bush and brought it back up to the tree house so we could feed him. Then the 2 went back to pellets so at least he would them.

That was the first and last day of Kenya.
